PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION

(December 2, 2013 – Medina, Ohio).

12250208-ant-hill-cover_158x140Greg Crane, founder of the ALICE training program stated, “Having a series of children’s books on how to respond and recover from acts of violence and disasters will aid in the age-appropriate ALICE training typically conducted by local law enforcement and school officials. We’re proud to be working with her and a leading non-profit publisher, National Center for Youth Issues on an ALICE book that will be released in early 2014.” ALICE Training is proud to announce a book deal with national award winning author, Julia Cook, a parenting expert with almost 60 children’s books to her credit. Her experience as a guidance counselor (where she often used children’s books to enhance her classroom lessons) and masters in elementary school counseling gives her a unique ability to translate difficult topics into kid-friendly language. Cook’s books have been featured on the national news and referenced in such publications as Parent’s Magazine, The New Yorker, The Chicago Tribune, Yahoo.com, dr.laura.com and babyzone.com.

Cook’s first book in this series will be available later this month and is titled, “The Ant Hill Disaster.”  It addresses the difficult task of talking to children’s about natural and man-caused disasters such as Sandy Hook.  With violent events happening in our world today, parents and educators are often at a loss of knowing what to say and how to say it.  Cook has managed to effectively address this issue of moving forward when things happen that are out of our control.

ALICE Training is changing how schools, universities and businesses respond to armed intruders.  ALICE (Alert, Lock-down, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate), developed after Columbine, teaches strategies to survive a life-threatening event.  Supported by educators and law enforcement organizations, ALICE is quickly becoming the new standard of care across the nation.
