April 25, 2018 started out like any other day at Forest High School in Ocala, Florida until a student with a weapon shot through a classroom door and wounded another student by hitting him in the ankle. The school responded using ALICE proactive strategies. Staff and students quickly used inform, enhanced lockdown and barricading, and evacuation tactics. “Our teachers started pushing file cabinets and desks toward the door, and a few friends and I joined in,” Jake Mailhiot, a student, said. “We also started tying together some jackets to hang out the window, in case we needed another way out.”
The staff and students were prepared and reacted accordingly. The shooter was taken into custody by the school resource officer and no fatalities or other injuries occurred.
