Science class is a time to dissect, swab, track data, and most importantly, learn. It can be a class for the intellectually curious to further expand their knowledge and conduct experiments to do so. For many, science can be an escape. Not a class you should have to escape from. During science class at Noblesville West Middle School in Noblesville, Indiana a student entered the classroom with a weapon and began firing. The ALICE trained students and teachers immediately acted to counter and secure the shooter. One student was injured as was the heroic teacher, Jason Seaman, who tackled the shooter to the ground, but there were no fatalities. The rest of the staff and students barricaded or evacuated the building.

The quick acts of the ALICE trained teacher saved lives at Noblesville Middle School on May 25, 2018. We are incredibly proud of those who used ALICE strategies to empower themselves and save lives. A student said, “He’s a hero. If he didn’t do anything [the shooter] probably would have continued shooting and a lot more of us would have been injured and possibly killed, so it was just something that not most people would have done but he was brave to do it.”
