An ALICE trained teacher was shopping at Springfield Mall in Springfield, Pennsylvania on October 20, 2018 with two of her sons when shots were fired. She recalled her ALICE Training and evacuated immediately with her children while informing others. She was able to stay calm and act fast and was unharmed in this situation.
She emailed her district principal and superintendent saying, “I just wanted to thank you for pushing the ALICE training, and for the safety drills that we have had. They came in handy yesterday for myself and 2 of my boys. While at Springfield Mall with my oldest and youngest sons, there was a shooting. Luckily, we were not in the immediate area of the shooting. I was able to evacuate with my boys and inform others on our way out. I remained calm, which in turn helped my boys to remain calm as well. I really feel that the training and drills that we did helped me greatly in this situation. So, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. It was definitely useful and helpful.”
No one was hurt in this shooting incident.
