Mass shootings in America have changed the way local police departments prepare and train for the worst. Preparation can mean the difference between life and death. That’s why local police departments like Northampton are learning lessons and sharpening their tactics. The Amherst Police Department and the ALICE Training Institute have teamed up to bring active shooter training to the Amherst Middle School in February. ALICE stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter and evacuate. Northampton says they hold drills at the local schools too using simulation training ammo. They say over the years more non-lethal equipment has been developed and police cruisers are stocked with better resources. Read more
