ALICE instructors say even police miss their intended target 70 percent of the time in a dynamic, high-stress event. Now, apply that to someone untrained and not expecting a victim to confront them. In another scenario, law enforcement and teachers from across Southwest Florida try the ALICE method. They barricade inside and counter-attack the gunman. ALICE teaches different strategies for different age groups. “As a teacher, I think there’s a sense of we don’t know what we are going to do at that moment,” said educator Scott Baier. “But it has to be to stop the intruder at all costs.” Because every second, and every action can mean another life saved.
