As active shooter situations have been filling the news headlines, more people want to be proactive about combating those situations. The town of Batesville told THV11 that they aren’t going to sit back and wait for something to happen. In February, the Benton Police Department and school system held training for active shooter situations. In August, the Pulaski County Special School District did the same. It’s all part of a growing trend, not only in schools but in private businesses as well. It’s called ALICE Training. Beginning in January, that same training will be available to the general public. Batesville Police Chief Alan Cockrill said that being proactive is the community’s main defense against an attack.”We are trying to educate our citizens in Independence County and the city of Batesville of what to expect from us, and what we expect from them. We are trying to help them survive in an incident,” said Chief Cockrill. Read more
