It is a frightful subject, and one that we witness on television and in the news media all too often. The threat of an “active shooter” is a reality, not only for students at colleges and universities, but also for students in our K-12 schools. High Principal Joey Adame presented the A.L.I.C.E. program, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate, for which Adame is a certified trainer. The purpose of the A.L.I.C.E. training is to prepare individuals to handle the threat of an active shooter. A.L.I.C.E. teaches individuals to participate in their own survival while, at the same time, leading others to safety. Though no one can ever guarantee complete success in this type of situation, the evidence indicates that this new set of skills will greatly increase the odds of survival should anyone face this form of disaster. An in-depth training will be provided to the District Leadership Team on Friday, November 13 followed by a training for School Safety Teams from each site and then, finally, the rest of the District staff.
