During his principal’s report, Mike Lowrey informed the Kansas Community Unit School District No. 3 Board of Education that he had completed a two-day ALICE training, and he introduced the principles to the faculty on Feb. 12 during the teacher in-service day.“Federal mandate now is you have to do more than just lock down and hide in a corner and hope for the best. So ALICE Training, I don’t want to give the impression that we’re training kids to go after intruders or anything, but we do more than just sit there now,” Lowery said. In order for this procedure to work, the teachers need to know that they can make evacuation decisions on their own without having to wait for Lowery to make the decision.
