“The employees need to know what to do, and the businesses and institutions really need an emergency operation plan,” said Dave Vastano, security supervisor at the Lima Public Library. Places like the Lima Public Library are responding to these attacks by teaching their employees ALICE training. “Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate,” Vastano says this acronym for ALICE doesn’t always follow the order in which you should respond in a shooter situation. If you’re in an active shooter situation the first thing you should do is look for an exit, if you can’t get out use something around you to distract or attack the shooter. “The techniques that they showed us were very simple ways for us to remove a threat from our environment, and I think it’s important for all of us to have that training, and if I can do it anybody can do it,” said reference librarian, Danielle Hollar.
