After three decades with the Ada Police Department, Assistant Chief Jeff Crosby is tackling a new challenge but staying in a familiar environment. Crosby took up that challenge last Sunday, when he became the city’s new emergency management director. He replaces former emergency management director Gene Linton, who resigned in June. Crosby said his experience as a police officer has taught him how to deal with emergencies and take steps to ensure the safety of his fellow officers. He said he helped bring the ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training program, which prepares people for dealing with an active shooter while leading others to safety, to the Ada school district. “We’ve trained all the Ada school teachers and school staff in, basically, taking advantage of everything they can to survive if something happened at the school — a violent attack,” he said.
