Tyngsboro Police Department- Tyngsboro, MA

Members of the Tyngsboro Police Department recently conducted Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate — or ALICE — training for faculty and staff at the Academy of Notre Dame. The purpose of ALICE training is to prepare individuals with strategies for handling the threat of an armed invader by teaching specific up-to-date survival and safety tactics. Sgts. Steve Manning and Mark Bourque presented an array of stories, real-life videos. There were active discussions about what could have been done differently in the video scenarios, identification of missed opportunities, and the success of new tactics over the old methods of handling these types of situations. After demonstrations of how to react in various scenarios, the faculty and staff were broken up into groups and put through a series of simulations in which they had to choose how to appropriately react based on the specific information provided to them.
