“We’re now trying to teach the teachers to empower themselves, where the teachers are responsible for the kids. We tell the teachers to get the kids out the window. There’s no sense in hiding in the corner and waiting for the bad guy to come in when you can escape and run away from the danger,” Huron County Sheriff Deputy Ryan Swartz said. In the past, teachers were told to lock classroom doors and instruct students to huddle together, which made easy targets for killers who rush through the school intent on wrecking as much terror as possible.
