Gering Officers Recommend Businesses Prepare for Mass Shootings

It’s not a matter of if there will be a mass shooting in our area, but when, Officer Justin Brunz of the Gering Police Department told a group of business and community leaders Wednesday. Gering Police have started training staff and teachers and will expand their training to students. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate. Brunz said he focuses on teaching that the protocol apply to “active killer” scenarios, not just “active shooters.” Brunz said that incidents could occur with persons armed with knives or even explosives, for example. “Doing something has a better survival rate than doing nothing,” he said.
