A parent’s worst nightmare may be violence at their child’s school — and there have been enough instances of that occurring around the country that it’s not an unrealistic fear. A threat of future violence was left in a bathroom at Pratt High School last fall. Nothing materialized, either because the threat was a hoax or enhanced vigilance by school and law enforcement personnel discouraged the would-be offender. Administrators at USD 382 want parents, students and public to know that they do have a crisis plan, to cover the worst-case scenario of an active shooter or intruder, a bus accident or a child who becomes lost during a field trip.
