Baraboo schools could change the way they prepare and train students and staff to react in emergency situations. The School Board heard Monday from Dani Scott, Baraboo’s director of special education and pupil services, about the ALICE protocol, proposed for use by the district in the event of an active shooter situation. The protocol would be implemented in place of traditional lockdown-only protocols. Scott said lockdown-only responses to active shooter incidents are no longer thought to be the best response in every situation. “As much as we don’t want to think about this as a possibility of happening within our schools, the research and the data clearly show that it can happen anywhere and anytime,” she said.
