Stark State College, Kent State University at Stark and the University of Mount Union- Canton, OH

Local colleges and universities say that they’ve taken no specific security measures in response to Thursday’s mass shooting at a community college in Oregon. But at least four of them say they’ve made preparations in case a similar incident happens here. Stark State College, Kent State University at Stark and the University of Mount Union say they conduct ALICE (Alert Lockdown Inform Counter Evacuate) training for students, faculty and staff several times a year. The training teaches several tactics to employ in response to a shooter on campus that involve locking and barricading doors, creating distractions and using self-defense measures and looking for ways to escape. The colleges also say they use a loudspeaker system in their buildings, mass text message alerts, mass emails and automated phone calls to alert students of emergencies.
