Green Bay area school districts have taken an active stance in preparing against intruders or other safety concerns in recent years, and are training staff as they gear up for another school year. Two years ago, Green Bay School District officials tweaked safety measures and adopted a plan known as ALICE, as in Alert, Lockdown, Information, Counter and Evacuate. The idea is for teachers, staff and students to do what they consider right if a shooter or intruder enters the building, rather than hide or retreat. “The biggest piece is empowering students and staff,” said Curt Julian, associate principal at Green Bay East High School. “You can’t possibly have a plan for everything, so we want to train them to be prepared for anything. We want them to have that confidence.” Read more
