No one likes to think of an active shooter walking onto a school campus, but South Montgomery Community School Corporation is taking steps to make their students are prepared in the best way possible for the worst case scenario. Beginning in February, students will be trained in the ALICE program, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. “This approach to a violent intruder basically focuses on common sense survival skills should a student be faced in a situation with a violent intruder,” Superintendent Shawn Greiner said. “Rather than one way to respond (hide and stay quiet), depending on the situation it may make more sense to flee, defend oneself, etc. These measures are transferable to any setting a student or staff member may find themselves in.” Read more
