The threat of an active shooter on a school campus has becoming an increasing reality. Across the country, more and more school districts are arming their staff with training for those tough situations. One of those trainings is the ALICE Training (Alert Lock-dock, Inform, Counter and Evacuate), a method that most districts in Lane County are implementing. The Springfield School District is taking things a step further, taking what staff learned and altering it to teach students, too. This week students are having the “active shooter” or “stranger danger” conversation. The district put together a team to tailor the training to each grade level. Read more
