‘We Have to Be Prepared’

St. Joseph-Ogden School District- Champaign, IL

The St. Joseph-Ogden school district is implementing ALICE during the 2015-16 school year in ways that are similar to previous years. Before implementing ALICE, SJ-O required students and staff to use lockdown only in the event of an active shooter. Now students and staff are given the option to lock down, counter the shooter or evacuate if they are safely able to. “The majority of our students and staff are very familiar with the process,” Principal Gary Page said. The district is reminding students of the ALICE procedures while training all new students and staff. Substitutes and bus drivers have also received ALICE training.
