Winfield R-IV District Works on Student Safety, Participates in Active Shooter Drill

Safety is a key factor in any school district. The Winfield School District has been working on a new plan to put in place called ALICE. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. The district put in place the first step to this process on Wednesday, October 1 by participating in an active shooter drill with the Winfield Police Department, Old Monroe Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. This drill was set up to be as realistic as possible with teachers placed inside their classrooms, in the commons area, and in the hallways. Two “shooters” entered the building through two separate entrances, and the whole drill lasted just under five minutes. Read more
