Quick Action Counters Knife Attack

Restaurants are a happy place. People are eating and sharing their time with others. However, in a restaurant in Iowa in February of 2013, violence erupted. A knife wielding teenage girl was stopped by a bystander, who was an ALICE trained teacher, after she non-fatally stabbed one customer. Reports say, “The teacher asked to remain anonymous, but he did state that his ALICE training helped him to stop the attacker.” It is unfortunate that these things happen where fond memories should be created, but it is a relief that people are able to react in public situations to minimize and prevent fatalities.
ALICE training empowers individuals to participate in their own survival, and in this attack, it was proven to empower individuals in public situations outside of the organizations where individuals were originally trained.
