In the same way that students are practicing tornado- and fire-safety drills, the students of Clay Central-Everly Schools will be practicing lockdown and evacuation procedures for a situation involving an intruder at the school. Members of the sheriff’s department and Emergency Management Services came and spoke to the district’s parents about ALICE — which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate — in part to inform them of the procedures and drills, and in part to give them information they can use when talking about the subject with their children. McClain noted the meeting not only offered information for parents to give to their children, but also encouraged parents to talk to their children about the lockdown scenarios. “This way they can be the first one to have that conversation with them,” McClain said.
