The city’s schools have begun implementing a new, more aggressive approach to shooter lockdowns with the aim of putting it into practice at all schools by the end of the year. The “ALiCE” system – which stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter, evacuate – differs from the normal lockdown procedure in that it encourages a more aggressive approach to escaping an intruder, according to the program’s website.A recently formed district implementation team this week introduced “ALiCE” to high school staff members. At the end of the month, the high school administration will start a series of meetings with students to familiarize them with the concept and answer questions, said Beth Wagner, district communications liaison.
