Green Bay Area Public Schools – Green Bay, Wisconsin

The Green Bay Schools District used their new evacuation plan for the first time Monday to counter an active-shooter situation. ALICE is the name of a program, designed to keep children safe by giving school staff the ability to take action, if faced with dangerous situations. “The main purpose of ALICE is to give the true first responder – students and staff on site, options,” said Barbara Dorff, executive director of pupil services for the district. Learning how to react and when is a vital part of the program. “To decide for themselves what is best to do based on the information they had,” said Dorff.  The district was glad in the end that no one was hurt. “I’m thanking God it went so smoothly today,” she continued.  Two-hundred kids were at East High school for summer classes.
