The start of the school year has teachers preparing and training to help prepare for the worst. The Richland Township School District is training with a program called Alice, taking steps to be proactive against violence. On Tuesday, officials trained Richland School District in Alice: Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. “It makes us feel better, it makes us recognize that we are trying to do everything we can to make sure that teachers understand that there are a lot of things they can do and its things that unfortunately we have to think about. How are we able to keep our kids safe if god forbid something did happen here?” Richland Elementary principal Gregg Wilson said. The 911 Director for Cambria County, Robbin Melynk, said the training gives teachers and students the best possible chance of surviving, and “is a more pro-active way to defend yourself rather than just finding a place to hide.” Read more
