May 7, 2019, Medina, Ohio – ALICE Training, the first civilian active shooter response training company in the country and NASRO the National Association of School Resource Officers are proud to announce Jason Seaman as the 2019 Jake Ryker Hero Award recipient. This is the 5th year for the Jake Ryker Hero Award ceremony which will be held at the 2019 NASRO National Conference.

ALICE Training created and designed the Jake Ryker Hero Award to honor individuals who stand up in the face of danger and act. The Jake Ryker story proves the ALICE philosophy that human behavior and proactive response can save lives; that people can be counted on to step up in times of great danger and bravely take action to save others. “Jason’s quick and decisive actions ended an extremely dangerous event very quickly. He prevented what could have been huge numbers of casualties that we too often see in these horrific events,” said Greg Crane, Founder of ALICE Training.

In May of 2018, a student entered Mr. Seaman’s 7th-grade class at Noblesville West Middle School and began to shoot. Jason distracted the shooter by throwing an object and charged the shooter as he began to discharge his weapon. Jason then tackled the shooter and secured the weapon giving the students an opportunity to evacuate. He demonstrated the honor and bravery that went above and beyond expectations and accepted the award with grace and humility today.

Stacey Swan, Principal of Noblesville West Middle School nominated Jason Seaman for his heroic actions. “If Mr. Seaman had not acted so flawlessly, many lives would have been lost on this day. Mr. Seaman has given of his physical body, mind, and heart, as well as precious time to the community of Noblesville,” said Stacey.

“I am beyond humbled by your decision to make me the recipient for the Jake Ryker Award. Thank you for what you do in regard to ALICE training.  There is no doubt in my mind that the training I received came into play with myself and the students and saved lives,” said Jason.

About ALICE Training

ALICE training is the original civilian options-based active shooter response program that is designed to replace an inadequate lockdown-only response plan. ALICE addresses the fallacies of a one-size-fits-all response plan by explaining the truths and realities of Violent Critical Incidents. ALICE options-based proactive strategies empower individuals to participate in their own survival in the face of violence. ALICE strategies are now also mirrored and recommended by many Federal and State official guidelines.
