Andover public schools are hoping to give students, teachers and administrators more options in the event of an emergency. And the town’s education leaders are turning to A.L.I.C.E. to help them. A.L.I.C.E. stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. It’s not a systematic process, but rather a list of options that are provided to keep schools as safe as possible. Andover police Sgt. Mark Higginbottom explained the A.L.I.C.E. safety protocol to the School Committee at its meeting last week. “What A.L.I.C.E. does is enhance our current crisis plans,” he said. “We realize that each school has a crisis plan in place, but what A.L.I.C.E. does is add to that plan.
