Keeping Higher Education Safe with ALICE
ALICE was created in 2001, after the events at Columbine High School. At the time, no program existed to sufficiently train educators in the event of a violent intruder, active shooter or act of terrorism. The founders of ALICE, Greg and Lisa Crane, created ALICE Training out of necessity.
Greg understood the unique challenges faced by law enforcement due to his role leading the Dallas Ft. Worth SWAT Team. Lisa, a grade school principal and used her knowledge as a career educator to empower and teach a sensitive topic to all ages.
The team at ALICE has studied hundreds of incidents going back to the 1960’s, interviewed survivors and inquired with subject matter experts to create a non-linear, options-based protocol to increase survivability in a violent event.
ALICE uses a blended learning model.
